Holyoke police investigating shooting of house, car
with AK-47-style gun

August 18, 2021

HOLYOKE — A house and car on Homestead Avenue were damaged after someone with a semi-automatic rifle opened fire early Wednesday. No one was injured.

Police detectives located at least a dozen shell casings at the scene of the shooting, which took place around midnight. The casings were consistent with the ammunition used in an AK-47-style gun, Capt. Matthew Moriarty said.

Police secured the scene and found at least two bullets had been shot through a front door window and the homeowner’s car had been shot multiple times, he said.

This is the second drive-by shooting reported on the street in three weeks. It is not known if the two are related.

On July 25, a Molotov cocktail was exploded in a driveway and four hours later shots were fired outside the same house. No one was injured in those incidents, Moriarty said.

The police department’s Criminal Investigation Unit is investigating both shootings. Anyone who saw anything, has video footage of the crimes or has any other information is asked to call detectives at 413-322-6900.
